“I will volunteer”
More than one million Americans are Red Cross volunteers; in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, more than 200 citizens are Red Cross volunteers. Will you join them?
The Red Cross recruits, trains and places volunteers who make valuable contributions, from the front lines of a disaster to the background of office support. There are many different ways you can help. Here are just a few:
Disaster Action Team
International Services
Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES)
Health & Safety Services
If you are going to be a Red Cross volunteer, you can begin learning about the organization right now:
Go through the Online Orientation -- it will provide an overview of the work our volunteers do.
The American Red Cross is one of several community organizations working together to respond to disasters. We match knowledge, skills, interests and experience of individuals with opportunities to serve the community. You’ll learn more about volunteer opportunities during your interview with our Director of Volunteer Services, Wendy Bunner.
Follow these steps to become a local Red Cross volunteer:
- Review the Volunteer Opportunities Checklist – this document can help you decide if the American Red Cross is a good fit for you.
- If you know the Red Cross is the right place for you, complete an On-line Application and the Confidential Information and Intellectual Property Agreement and e-mail it here.
- Or, print out the On-line Application, complete it and fax to (304) 264-3873 or mail to the Director of Volunteer Services, Eastern Panhandle Chapter of the American Red Cross, 617 Winchester Avenue,
Martinsburg, WV 25401.
- Upon receipt of your application, we will contact you about your classroom volunteer orientation session. Then you will be interviewed and matched to a volunteer position that best suits your interests within the organization.
Volunteering is just one step in the four-step local Promise to Prepare project. We'd like 10,000 local individuals - like yourself - to promise that you will Volunteer (or do one of the other three actions) in the next 12 months. Tell us what you promise to do and we'll help you get there.
